Gunfire that rang out in the early morning hours of Thursday, September 5, in Vankleek Hill is being investigated as a targeted shooting, according to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).<\/p>\n

Around 1:30 a.m. Thursday, officers from the Hawkesbury detachments of the OPP responded to reports of multiple gun shots being fired at parked vehicles along Highway 34 near Main Street West in Vankleek Hill.<\/p>\n

Police indicated the suspect, or suspects, fled the scene heading westbound on County Road 10 in a black or dark vehicle.<\/p>\n

No injuries have been reported.<\/p>\n

Investigators believe the incident to be targeted, and there is no imminent risk to public safety. Police would not state why they believe the shooting to be targeted.<\/p>\n

This is the second targeted shooting to take place in Champlain Township in six months. Late in the night on April 7, shots were fired at a residence on Sainte-Anne Road. In that case, police believed the shooters targeted the wrong house. Police have not revealed the outcome of their investigation into the April 7 shooting.<\/p>\n

OPP spokesperson Bill Dickson said police are still in the early stages of the investigation and cannot “speculate on any potential connection” to other incidents.<\/p>\n
