The United Counties of Prescott and Russell (UCPR) hosted its annual Warden\u2019s Banquet at Vankleek Hill Collegiate Institute on Saturday, Nov. 23, celebrating Mayor Normand Riopel of Champlain Township as he concluded his second term as Warden.<\/p>\n
The event drew a large crowd, including family, friends, political figures from various levels of government, and community leaders from across the Prescott and Russell region.<\/p>\n
Sponsored by the Hawkesbury and District General Hospital, the banquet was a resounding success, showcasing not only Warden Riopel\u2019s contributions but also the dedication of numerous individuals who have shaped the region.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am proud to have shared the stage with so many fellow citizens at the Banquet,\u201d said Warden Riopel during his address. \u201cBy working with the UCPR Council and staff, community partners, and regional leaders, a Warden can advance significant projects and achieve meaningful goals. I am deeply grateful to everyone who has supported me over the past year and believed in my vision for Prescott and Russell.\u201d<\/p>\n
The evening included tributes to notable public figures. Pierre Leroux, Mayor of the Township of Russell from 2014 to 2024, was honored for his political career, including his service as UCPR Warden in 2020 and the early months of 2024. Robert Kirby, Mayor of East Hawkesbury, was also recognized for his two decades of leadership. Kirby, who served as Warden in 2009, 2015, and 2019, continues to make significant contributions to the region.<\/p>\n
The event also featured the 10th annual JP St. Pierre Award ceremony, named in honor of Jean-Paul St. Pierre, the late Mayor of Russell Township. The award recognizes individuals who have made a positive impact in their communities. This year, the award was presented to two recipients. Marcel Belle-Isle was recognized for over 60 years of volunteer work, particularly with youth-focused organizations, while Connie Johnston was celebrated for her extensive involvement in community groups and fundraising initiatives in the Russell area.<\/p>\n
The Warden\u2019s Award was presented to Julie Delorme, Nursing Supervisor at the Prescott and Russell Residence, in recognition of her 15 years of dedication, creativity, and passion that have made her an invaluable asset to the facility. An Honorary Warden\u2019s Award was also presented for only the second time in the banquet\u2019s history. This year\u2019s recipient, Fran\u00e7ois Bellemare, was honored for his commitment to the community as both a volunteer firefighter and a devoted community volunteer.<\/p>\n
The evening also served as a fundraiser for local non-profit and community organizations. Funds raised through the Warden\u2019s Golf Tournament and Banquet will be distributed during the UCPR Inaugural Meeting on December 18, 2024. Since 2018, the event has raised over $167,000 for the Prescott and Russell community, further cementing its role as a cornerstone of regional philanthropy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
