{"id":107611,"date":"2025-10-15T22:32:58","date_gmt":"2025-10-16T02:32:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/editionap.ca\/?p=107611"},"modified":"2026-02-17T21:52:15","modified_gmt":"2026-02-17T20:52:15","slug":"cougars-win-first-two-games-of-new-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tribune-express.ca\/en\/sports-loisirs\/cougars-win-first-two-games-of-new-season\/","title":{"rendered":"Cougars win first two games of new season"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The Vankleek Hill Cougars are off to a promising start for their new hockey season.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Cougars have won both of their first two games of the season, beating the Cumberland Castors 3-1 in the Cougars` home game opener October 4 at the Vankleek Hill Arena, and then on the road October 11 for a Thanksgiving weekend victory against the Kanata Kings, 3-2, at the Cavanaugh Sensplex in Ottawa.<\/p>\n<p>The Castors opened the scoreboard in first period of the home game in Vankleek Hill with goal from Jaren Ruperthouse, aided by Riley Webb, early in the first period. It was the last and only goal for the visiting team for the rest of the night.<\/p>\n<p>Midway into second period Liam Lynn tied up the score on a power-play offensive, with help from Jacob Crete and Connor Cook. Another power-play push a minute later, led by Zack Langlois, assisted by Zachary Sullivan and Bradley Horner, pulled the Cougars into the lead.<\/p>\n<p>A third and final power-play offence at the third period midpoint clinched the win for the Cougars. Leading the offence on the goal was Assistant Captain Cody Horner, with help from Crete and Bradley Horner.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Crowning the Kings<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Saturday evening at the Cavanaugh Sensplex, the Cougars crowned the Kanata Kings 3-2 with Liam Lynn opening up the scoreboard early in the second period on a power-play push, with help from Jacob Crete and Cody Horner.<\/p>\n<p>The Kings pushed back with two goals to take the lead at the end of the period. Early in third period, Horner tied up the score, with an assist from Garrett Cunning. Ethan Butler punched in the tiebreaker goal midway through the period to put the Cougars back in the lead and win the game.
