Champlain Township council approved hiring EVB Engineering for the engineering design work on the L\u2019Orignal Sanitary Sewer Relining Project. The decision brings the start of the $3.18 million project closer to the start of excavation and construction work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For the past few years now township staff have had complaints from residents in several neighbourhoods of the Village of L\u2019Orignal about sewer backup incidents on their properties because of increases in the amount of water going into the sanitary sewer network during spring thaw and also following heavy rainfall during the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Two years ago Champlain Township applied to the provincial government for funding aid for a major upgrade of the sanitary sewer system. The first application under the Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund was turned down but the township later got approval for funding through the Health and Safety Water Stream grant program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Official notice of the approval was in January this year and the township must have a construction contract for the project approved and signed by September 30 this year. Getting an engineering consultant confirmed for the project is the first step to getting the construction contract approved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The L\u2019Orignal Sanitary Sewer Relining Project is budgeted at $3,188,946, with the provincial government providing $2,327,931 towards the cost. Completion of the project will extend the working life of L\u2019Orignal\u2019s sewer system by at least another 50 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The project involves 7550 metres of sanitary sewer mains and also grouting of 100 manholes. Completion of all the work will eliminate the backflow incidents, including those resulting from extreme weather cases of excessive rainfall or snow melt, reduce the amount of sewage overflow into the Ottawa River, and support future residential and other development in the south side of the village.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
