The Champlain Winter Carnival will run from February 2 to 25 and will feature several outdoor and virtual activities. A modified program will comply with all local health measures while providing winter fun for the whole family. <\/p>\n
One online event is the Snow Sculpture Contest. Sculptures can be any size or shape the artist dreams up, and submissions will be accepted until February 24 at 4:00 p.m. Send pictures of the artwork, along with the artist\u2019s name and age, to the Champlain Township Facebook page. <\/p>\n
Another individual event is the Winter Scavenger Hunt. Find and photograph the five wooden snowmen hidden around the township and send the selfies to the Champlain Township Facebook page by February 24 at 4:00 p.m. Five clues hint at the snowmen\u2019s locations: \u201cA place to learn and read\u201d; \u201cMany sports are practised at this facility\u201d; \u201cA park with the same last name as one of our councillors\u201d; \u201cThe oldest in Ontario and the second oldest in Canada\u201d; and \u201cThe head office\u201d. <\/p>\n
Other activities include a free Junior C game on February 5, Arts & Crafts nights at the Champlain Library every Wednesday from 4 to 5 p.m., free access to the cross-country skiing trails over the weekend of February 12 to 13, free outdoor skating rinks, free indoor skating at the Vankleek Hill Arena every Wednesday from 3 to 5 p.m., a glow-stick skating event on February 9, and a snow slide built at Mill Street Park in Vankleek Hill. <\/p>\n
“The Parks and Recreation Department has made sure to have a full and diversified program throughout the month of February, instead of just one weekend\u201d said Lisa Burroughs, director of Parks and Recreation. \u201cThis way, there is no need to gather, and families can enjoy the different activities at their convenience. The ultimate goal of the carnival has always been to rediscover the pleasure of outdoor activities, and this is even more the case this year. We have such beautiful facilities and a dedicated team in both the Parks and Recreation Department and the Library, and we are pleased to join forces to offer a wide variety of activities for families. Whether it’s through building a snow sculpture, visiting Champlain’s attractions through a snowman hunt, a glow in the dark skate or a craft workshop for kids, there’s something for everyone!
