The plan includes enhanced public health safety measures and other guidelines for staff and students at all CDSBEO schools. The plan covers both in-school and online learning options for students. The second-floor mezzanine area of the Clarence Creek Arena became available August 17 for private event rentals. All applications will be assessed for number of participants, and feasibility of social distancing. Reopenings of other community centres will take place during the remainder of summer and into autumn. \u2013 Gregg Chamberlain<\/p>\n<p><strong>E-commerce help<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The City of Clarence-Rockland contributed $5000 to the Prescott-Russell eBusiness Grant program to help support local businesses recovering from the current pandemic situation. The United Counties of Prescott-Russell is trying to raise $50,000 for the grants program as part of its regional economic recovery strategy. The program will assist local businesses in developing their online sales and service setups. Clarence-Rockland\u2019s contribution will go towards assisting businesses within its area. \u2013 Gregg Chamberlain<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lacroix road culvert<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The City of Clarence-Rockland will budget more money for the cost of replacing a 40-year-old steel culvert on Lacroix Road. The original 2020 capital works budget included $372,000 for the project but Arnco Construction Ltd., the contractor with the lowest bid for the work, estimated the cost at almost $359,000, not including HST. Council approved a staff recommendation to increase the budget allocation to $472,000 with funds from the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund. \u2013 Gregg Chamberlain<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bromberg AMO seat<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Justin Bromberg will continue to represent the United Counties of Prescott-Russell (UCPR) at the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO). Bromberg was acclaimed to another term on the AMO board of directors during the group\u2019s annual conference that took place August 17 to 19 in virtual format this year. Bromberg is the UCPR chief of staff and communications manager. The AMO represents all 444 municipal governments in Ontario and lobbies the province on municipal issues. \u2013 Gregg Chamberlain<\/p>\n<p><strong>Highway 34 loan<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Champlain Township council approved Bylaw 2020-51 authorizing a $316,500 loan to pay the municipality\u2019s share of the costs for reconstruction of Highway 34.
