{"id":99077,"date":"2024-02-06T11:22:47","date_gmt":"2024-02-06T16:22:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/editionap.ca\/?p=99077"},"modified":"2026-02-17T21:53:27","modified_gmt":"2026-02-17T20:53:27","slug":"champlain-township-offering-talk-series-on-ai-and-its-real-world-implications","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tribune-express.ca\/en\/justice-faits-divers\/champlain-township-offering-talk-series-on-ai-and-its-real-world-implications\/","title":{"rendered":"Champlain Township offering talk series on AI and its real-world implications"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The Champlain Library is offering a series of talks on artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, cryptocurrencies, and virtual and augmented reality with guest speaker Fernando Real.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re technologies that are changing our lives, the same way the internet and phones changed people\u2019s lives\u201d said Real.<\/p>\n<p>Fernando Real, a freelance graphic designer with studies in design and engineering living and working in Vankleek Hill, said he has worked on a number of virtual reality projects.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was close with the world of computers all my life\u201d said Real.<\/p>\n<p>The goal of the talks is to educate people on what AI, blockchain and cryptocurrencies, and extended realities are, how they work, and how they could affect reality in the future.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe three subjects are related and that\u2019s why I chose them. I always insist that everything is interconnected.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The first talk on the subject of AI was held on January 31 at the Champlain library. During the talk, Real not only discussed how artificial intelligence works but also addressed questions many are asking such as \u201cis AI going to take over people\u2019s jobs?\u201d and \u201cis it dangerous?\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The second conference will be about blockchain technologies and cryptocurrencies and the third will be on virtual and augmented reality.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou ask a lot of people what the blockchain is and they don\u2019t know,\u201d said Real. \u201cIt\u2019s going to change our economy, so it\u2019s important to know what it is.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The next two conferences will be held Wednesday, February 21 and Wednesday, March 20 from 6:30 to 8 PM at the Creative Center in Vankleek Hill.
