NOTICE OF INTENTION TO DESIGNATE UNDER PART IV, SECTION 29 OF THE ONTARIO HERITAGE ACT

TAKE NOTICE that the Council of the Corporation of the Town of Hawkesbury, on the 14th day of September 2026, adopted Resolution R-124-26 to state its intention to designate by municipal by-law, the property known Église Saint-Alphonse-de-Liguori located at 470 Main Street East, Hawkesbury, Ontario K6A 1A9 and legally described as SEC M-6 PCL 10-1

Council has determined that the property has cultural heritage value or interest and merits municipal designation under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act.

The property is proposed for municipal designation as it possesses cultural heritage value or interest due to its significance in the historical and architectural development of the Town of Hawkesbury and its contribution to the character of Main Street East.

The heritage attributes proposed to be protected include, but may not be limited to:

  • The location of the building on the property;
  • The scale, massing and form of the building;
  • The exterior architectural features and materials;
  • Original windows, doors, openings and decorative elements;
  • Roof form and detailing;
  • Streetscape features contributing to the property’s contextual significance; and
  • Any additional heritage attributes identified in the heritage evaluation report.

Any person may, within 30 days after the date of publication of this Notice, serve a notice of objection to the proposed designation.

The notice of objection must:

  • Be in writing;
  • Set out the reasons for the objection; and
  • Include all relevant facts.
