Drug charges filed against local woman

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested a local woman on a variety of drug-related charges.

Local OPP, with support from the OPP East Region Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), executed a search warrant on a Regent Street residence December 19.

The CSCU began an investigation earlier in the year on suspected drug trafficking in the area after receiving notice of community concerns.

The CSCU, with support from the Emergency Response Team, the OPP K9 Unit, and the local detachment, acted on a search warrant. An amount of methamphetamine pills and some money were seized.

A 55-year-old woman is charged under federal narcotics control regulations with possession of as Schedule 1 substance, possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of proceeds under $5000 value obtained through crime.

The accused was released from custody following recording of the charges. She is scheduled to appear in provincial court January 21.
