Work on the entrance way to the Hawkesbury Public Library is focused on closing off cold air drafts.
An article in the mid-January issue of Tribune Express/Le Carillon on the Hawkesbury Public Library budget presentation to council included a photo of the front entrance to the library building that featured scaffolding and tarpaulin cover for work on the library entrance area. The caption for the photo stated that the library entrance was undergoing some “facelift” renovation work but library Chief Administrator Emanuelle Olivieri contacted EAP to report the information was in error and a meeting was scheduled so she could explain what the work involves.
The public library at 550 Higginson Street is housed in a building that the municipality owns. The current library building was built in the 1970s and during the past few years some draft problems have developed at the entrance of the building.
“There was a lot of cold air coming in,” said Olivieri.
During the winter there may sometimes be cold drafts from the entrance area and during summer there may be problems with excessive humidity. Both conditions result sometimes in discomfort for library staff and patrons. Last summer the library has forced to close several times during the extreme heat conditions that prevailed sometimes during the season.
Since the municipality owns the building, funding was allocated to do repair work at the library entrance to stop the drafts. Olivieri reported conditions are better now inside the library since the repair work began.
