Police and the Hawkesbury Fire Department have blocked off access for all traffic on Spence Street between the Cameron Street and Berthiaume Street intersections.

The fire department received notice at 11:20 a.m. of a ruptured natural gas line at the Spence Street construction site for the new Prescott-Russell Residence. The line was broken during excavation work at the site.

Emergency officials are now waiting for a repair crew from Enbridge Gas to attend at the scene and deal with the broken gas line.

There is no indication at present of any danger but everyone within the cordoned-off section of the street should remain indoors until the situation is resolved.
