The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) finished another Festive RIDE campaign targeting drunk drivers during the Holiday Season.
Police released the results of the 2025 Festive RIDE CounterAttack campaign against drunk driving and other hazardous driving habits.
The 2025 campaign ran from November 20 2025 to January 1 2026.
The East Region part of the provincial campaign covers all of Eastern Ontario in the municipal and highway jurisdictions where the OPP operates. More than 1600 RIDE patrols and checkstops were held throughout Eastern Ontario during the two-month campaign period.
The 2025 campaign resulted in 150 motorists charged with impaired driving. Every driver charged received an immediate 90-day suspension of their driver’s licences and had their vehicles impounded for seven days. All will appear in provincial court later in the year.
During the RIDE campaign, police also issued 28 licence suspensions to drivers who tested in the “warning range” on the roadside breathalyzer roadside screening device.
In Russell County there were 125 RIDE events during the holiday period, with 22 impaired driving charges filed and two “warning range” suspensions issued. In Prescott County there were 95 RIDE events, with eight impaired driving charges filed and one “warning range” suspension issued.
The OPP RIDE campaigns will take place at various times during the year. Drivers are reminded that effective January 1 there are changes to the Ontario Highways Traffic Act for increased penalties and other measures targeting impaired driving.
