Cougars tied with les Aigles atop league standings

Vankleek Hill and St-Isidore are tied for the lead now in the National Capital Junior Hockey League standings.

At the end of the last weekend of October the NCJHL standings show the Vankleek Hill Cougars and les Aigles de Saint-Isidore both with seven wins to their credit after their first seven scheduled games of the season.

Following behind with seven games played also so far in the schedule are the Kanata Kings with five wins and two losses and the Westport Rideau with four wins and three losses, including one defeat in overtime play.

The South Grenville Rangers have nine games finished on their season schedule but with just four wins and five losses that put that team behind Kanata and Westport in the standings to date. The Metcalfe Jets follow, with seven games played and a 3-4 win-loss result, then the Cumberland Castors, with seven games finished but just two wins and five losses that include one overtime play defeat.

Finishing up the standings in the last week of October are the North Dundas Rockets with nine games played and just one win to their credit, followed by the Morrisburg Lions with eight games played and one win to show for their efforts so far.

                                                                                                           Cougars shut out Jets

The Cougars grounded the Jets 6-0 at the Larry Robinson Arena in Metcalfe last Friday night.

Vankleek Hill divided its goals three each during first and second periods, with Garrett Cunning putting the first point on the board during the first five minutes of the first period. Zack Langlois assisted Cunning on the goal.

Langlois then punched in his own point for Vankleek Hill at the period mid-point, assisted by Jacob Crete. A power-play goal by Nolan Macmillan four minutes later brought the score to 3-0 for the Cougars. Assistant Captain Cody Horner helped Macmillan with the goal

Macmillan added to his scoring total for the night with another power-play point punched in the Metcalfe net four minutes into second period. Horner assisted again on the goal.

Ethan Butler put an unassisted goal into the Metcalfe net at the mid-point of second period. Macmillan finished off the scoring with a hat trick goal by himself in the last five minutes of the period.

Third period finished without any goals scored, leaving the Cougars 6-0 against the Jets.

                                                                                                                 Cougars claw Lions

Saturday night in the Lions den at the Morrisburg Arena, the Cougars chewed up the host team 8-0 with goals scored in every period of the game.

Ethan Butler began the shut-out session with the first goal of the game at the mid-point of first period, getting an assist from Rylan Wolowicz. A minute later Liam Lynn popped in the second goal, assisted by Alexandre Chenier and Avery MacCuaig.

Cougars Assistant Captain Cody Horner fired in the third goal of the game in the last half of first period. Assisting him were Lynn and Bradley Horner.

Lynn notched his second goal of the game four minutes into second period, with an assist from Bradley Horner. Zachary Sullivan punched in Vankleek Hill’s fifth goal during the final two minutes of the period, with help from Wolowicz and Butler.

Lynn scored another hat trick, firing the puck into the Lions net about five minutes into third period. Assisting him were Jacob Crete and Garrett Cunning.

Sullivan got his second goal of the night in the last five minutes of the game, assisted by Lynn and Zack Langlois. Butler finished the Cougars’ 8-0 scoring streak in the final two minutes of play, with help from Sullivan and Wolowicz.

                                                                                                                      Cougars rip Rangers

The Vankleek Hill Cougars finished their shutdown run on NCJHL teams with a 7-0 win at home Sunday afternoon against the South Grenville Rangers.

Bruno Laframboise began the scoring streak with an unassisted goal in the first half of first period. Liam Lynn popped in his own solo goal shot when the Cougars were playing short-handed in the last four minutes of the period.

Within the next 30 seconds of Lynn’s goal, Cougars Assistant Captain Cody Horner punched in another goal, with help from Connor Cook and Bradley Horner.

Nolan Macmillan finished the first-period scoring with less than 30 seconds on the clock. Assisting him on the goal were Alexandre Chenier and Cody Horner.\

Macmillan scored the single goal of second period on a power play close to the mid-mark of the period. Assisting him were Bradley Horner and Cody Horner.

Derek Hamel brought the score to 7-0 for the Cougars in the first half of third period, with help from Bradley Horner and Mathieu Levesque.

Macmillan finished the game and the score with a hat trick goal in the last half of third period. Assisting him were Cody Horner and Conner Cook.

The Cougars are in Chesterville October 29 to play against the North Dundas Rockets. They have two home games for the start of November with first the Kanata Kings Saturday night and then the Morrisburg Lions Sunday afternoon.
