The Hawkesbury Hawks and the Cornwall Colts faced each other in consecutive games with both sides getting one win in the first week of the December schedule in the Central Canada Hockey League (CCHL).
The Colts won 5-3 over the Hawks during last Thursday night’s game in Cornwall.
Nash Luther started the scoring for the Colts with a goal in the first four minutes of first period. Assisting him were Timoty Walker and Alex Brown.
Hawkesbury’s Carter Graves answered back at the period mid-mark, with help from Matthew Itzkovitz and Tommy Anderson.
Luc Beliveau broke the tie in Cornwall’s favour about 30 seconds before the period buzzer sounded. Assisting him were Camden McCuaig and Colby Lauzon.
Then six seconds before the end of the period the Hawks’ Colton Sarrazin, with an assist from Parker Burns, tied up the score again.
Hawkesbury continued to score starting in second period with Arthur Lalonde firing the puck into the net almost seven minutes into the play. Marc-Olivier Lauzon helped him score the Hawks’ third goal.
Brown tied the score back up again at the mid-mark with fellow Colts Luther and Wilson Dowse assisting.
Third period belonged to Cornwall with the Colts tallying two goals courtesy of Chancey Novosad, assisted by McCuaig and William Cotton, and a solo shot by Lauzon.
Last Friday night at the Robert Hartley Sports Complex in Hawkesbury, the Hawks clipped the Colts 5-4.
Cornwall got the jump on the scoreboard with a power-play goal by Colby Lauzon five minutes into first period. Assisting him were Wyatt Warner and Lyndon Lamb.
Hawkesbury answered back in second period with a four-goal run, starting with a point by Xavier Lacoste early in the period, with help from Michael Minchello and Vital Denis.
Cornwall’s Camden McCuaig answered with the Colts’ second goal of the night on a power play. Assisting him were Luc Beliveau and Lyndon Lamb. William Cotton gave Cornwall another goal at the period mid-mark, with help from Lamb and Derek Rhodes.
Then the Hawks began their run, first with Dinis scoring on a power-play push four minutes before the end of the period. Assisting him were Minchello and Marc-Olivier Lauzon. Another point for the Hawks two minutes later, courtesy of Matthew Itzkovitz, with an assist from Albert Genest.
Lauzon finished the scoring run for the Hawks in the last two minutes of second period. Assisting him were Ben Lacoste and Danny Kananga.
Parker Burns scored the final goal for Hawkesbury near the middle of third period, with assists from Thomas St-Louis and Tyler Walsh. Colby Lauzon made one final goal for Cornwall less than a minute before the end of the game. Assisting him were McCuaig and Beliveau.
The Hawks are in North Grenville December 10 against the Kemptville 73s. They return to Hawkesbury Friday night to host the Navan Grads.
