The Vankleek Hill Community Centre will be the venue for this year’s Spring Fiddle and Square Dance Showcase and Dance. On Saturday, May 7, local talent will show off their musical chops to raise money for the Vankleek Hill Fiddle and Dance Association, presented in partnership with the Vankleek Hill Agricultural Society.
The showcase will start at 2 p.m. and features national and local talent including The Fiddleaires, the Ormstown Square Dancers, the Kayleigh Armstrong Highland Dancers, and the Vankleek Hill Square Dancers. Sharon McOuat and Glenn Silverson will accompany, and Anna Ludlow will also be performing.
The Fiddleaires are 11-year-old Wilson and nine-year-old Lucie from the Upper Ottawa Valley. They step dance, fiddle, and play piano, and are planning to release their first album, Fiddletainment, in May. Kayleigh Armstrong is an instructor at the Ottawa Highland Dance School and will present the MacDonald Highland Dancers, accompanied on the bagpipes by Bruce McCuaig of Lancaster.
Tickets for the Afternoon Showcase are $10 per person. Anyone who buys a showcase ticket will be able to buy a ticket for the Evening Spring Dance for $5 instead of $10. The dance will be from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. and will feature Roger Hamelin and Band, along with the Vankleek Hill Old Time Fiddlers.
