Hawkesbury man charged with attempted murder

A Hawkesbury man is charged with attempted murder.

OPP responded to a call early Saturday morning about an attack involving a weapon in residence located off of Main Street in Hawkesbury’s downtown district.

At 3 a.m. police attended at a residence on Higginson Street. The initial report to police was that a man had suffered a serious stab wound during an assault.

The suspect in the case had fled the area. The wounded man was taken to hospital for treatment of serious but not-life-threatening injuries.

Investigation identified a suspect in the case and several hours later police arrested a man in a location close to the Main Street downtown area. Several of the arresting officers involved wore body armour and carried assault rifles as a precaution.

Jason McGregor, 41, of Hawkesbury is charged with attempted murder. He remained in custody until a bail hearing was scheduled for Monday, October 27, at the Ontario Court of Justice in L’Orignal.

Investigation continues in the case.

EDITOR’S NOTE: The printed version of this story that appeared in the Oct. 22 edition of the Tribune Express stated that the suspect’s first name was James, when in fact it is Jason. We apologize for any inconvenience and confusion this may cause.
