A brief spill for one of the Vankleek Hill Cougars during efforts to try and get another goal into the Kanata Kings’ net during last Saturday night’s home game. The Cougars led the Kings 7-1 up to the middle of third period when Kanata decided to forfeit the rest of the game.

Cougars cruise to wins over Kanata, North Dundas

The Vankleek Hill Cougars got a break on their Saturday night home game as the Kanata Kings decided to forfeit finishing the match because they were so far behind on the scoreboard.

The Cougars crowned the Kings 7-1 at the Vankleek Hill Arena in a game that saw the home team scoring almost without opposition against Kanata.

First period goals all belonged to the Cougars starting with the first one by Jacob Crete 30 seconds into the start of the game. Assisting him were Garrett Cunning and Avery MacCuaig.

Liam Lynn fired in the second point for Vankleek Hill with a short-handed goal in the last five minutes of the period, assisted by Cunning and Mael Gendron. Twenty seconds after Lynn’s goal, Nikolas Mayer added another point to the Vankleek Hill side of the scoreboard. Mayer got help from Mike Fournier and Bruno Laframboise on the goal.

Laframboise scored unassisted midway through the second period. In the last two minutes of the period, Xavier Plante popped in the fifth goal for the Cougars, with help from Cunning and Nolan Macmillan.

Lynn hammered in a power-play goal in the last 50 seconds of the period, with assists from Bradley Horner and Cody Horner.

Marc Shaughnessy got the Kings their one goal in the last 30 seconds of the period. Assisting him was Jordan Cruz.

Midway through third period Avery MacCuaig fired in a power-play goal for the seventh point on the Vankleek Hill side of the scoreboard. Assisting MacCuaig were Bradley Horner and Cody Horner.

After that final goal for the Cougars the Kanata Kings conceded the game.

Rockets grounded

Sunday afternoon at home the Cougars shut down the North Dundas Rockets 9-1.

Garrett Cunning scored the first two goals of the game for the Cougars with one puck in the net early in first period and the second one five minutes into second period. Assisting Cunning on his first goal were Liam Lynn and Avery MacCuaig, with Alexandre Chenier providing help on the second goal.

Nolan Macmillan gave the Cougars their third point of the game close to the mid-mark in second period. Helping him out were Xavier Plante and Connor Cook. Almost a minute after Macmillan’s goal, Bruno Laframboise added another point to the Cougars’ total, with help from Chenier and Mike Fournier.

Caden Holmes got the Rockets on the scoreboard with a power-play goal in the last five minutes of second period. Assisting him were Dawson Coleman and Luke Griffin.

Cody Horner advanced Vankleek Hill by another point in the last two minutes of the period, with assists from Cunning and Jacob Crete. Fournier, with help from Laframboise, punched in a power-play goal with six seconds on the period time clock.

Third period saw Cody Horner pop a goal into the Rockets’ net near the mid-mark. Assisting him were Maxime Carrière and Johnny Kirby. The final goal of the night was a power-play point in the last half of third period from Drew Cunning, with help from Crete and Ryder Hill.

This Saturday afternoon the Cougars are at the Ray Friel Recreation Complex to play against the Cumberland Castors. Sunday evening the Cougars are in Saint-Isidore.
